I forged a successful career in the Army that saw me rise through the ranks from the shop floor, as a 16 year old ‘boy soldier’, to the board room, as a Commanding Officer.
I seized opportunities and then developed and exploited them effectively in order to grow my military career and influence.
I learnt many valuable lessons along the way and I took enormous pride in my ability to help and facilitate others on a similar journey. It was a vocation in which I demonstrated significant leadership and collaboration; I’m ‘good at people’, understanding and motivating them to follow my example - both in battle and in day-to-day operation. I’m disciplined but not regimented or confined by process and I am enthusiastic and passionate – ‘good enough’, is never good enough.
I know first-hand the importance of making mission critical decisions, and of having a well-developed strategy and plans to deliver it.
Alongside this experience and diversity of thought, I also sought to acquire further commercial education and business related qualifications, most recent of which were my MBA, Certificate in Company Direction and Project Management Qualification.
I have a willingness to listen and learn, but never to just accept the status quo or defer to ‘perceived wisdom’.
I think my experiences in life outside of business give me an ability to think somewhat differently and to contribute effectively.
Since leaving the Army I have worked in the Financial Services sector, primarily in the areas of international business development, the securing of EU compliant payment services licences and in the implementation of treasury services payment platforms.
I have established a company that will offer strategic leadership and management advice services; alongside this will be the offer of project and change management and of problem solving expertise.
I will provide challenge to perceived wisdom and to established board dynamics and potential imbalances, whilst also offering an independent view. I can help avoid 'execution reverse engineering' and I hope to create a little constructive tension...
I will also offer mentoring, coaching and training to senior leaders and managers as required.
My service can include a extensive consultation to help you identify opportunities; I can provide a comprehensive report that includes a project plan (where appropriate) with timelines and milestones, a cost analysis, and a schedule.
That’s how we'll ensure your success.
Business mentors are key - that’s why when it comes to client selection, I'm keen to ensure I am the right 'fit' for your organisation. I want to give each of you the time and guidance you deserve. Whether you’re seeking strategic guidance, to form an alliance with the right partner or a special skillset or tool, contact me today. Together we’ll create and refine your plan for success.
I didn’t get there alone. And neither will you.
And why 28? It was sum of all the numbers in my personal Army number and the date of a number of significant events in my life...).
